Can you use a ground floor slab to take horizontal forces from columns? Instead of relying on spread footers to resist sliding.
Typically I have not because the slab is placed with expansion joints around the columns but I was curious what others do
this line needed a slight change so it would work:
lRow = xl.Match(CLng(CDate(Cells(1, 1).Value)), Sheet2.Columns(1), 0)
I attached an updated file that should work for you

"you've basically got a slip-critical connection with all its associated cost impacts", this is not accurate. I'm not trying to be a pain but a bearing connection has about 40% more capacity than a slip critical one in shear. You will use a lot more bolts with slip critical, hence the added cost.
AISC 341 does not require slip critical connections, the bolts can be designed as bearing type connections but the faying surfaces must meet the requirements for a class A slip critical connection and the bolts must be pretensioned (see 341-05 C7.2 and 341-10 D2.4).
How do you obtain story drifts from STAAD with a dynamic analysis? Should you use the node displacements? Or the PRINT STORY DRIFT command? And do you need to factor up displacements Cd/I (see ASCE 7-05 12.9.2)
Thanks
I get the 'page cannot be found' window when i try uploading but i got it working now (thanks HeeeyDave), i was mixing up location of the torque and the location of the stresses
thank you (again) for your help, hopefully i will have this working now
i couldn't get the file upload to work, i have a pdf of my mathcad file and when i hit upload it wouldn't work
i was getting the same formula you had for ?'and I agree, ?' shouldn't be zero from the graphs
your formula for ?' looks like it would be zero when z=0, what do you get for ?' when z=0?
That is strange why your posts are deleted. I agree, if someone is deleting it, they should explain why, that is poor communication!
Thanks for posting the solution. I agree with the solution but when z=0, I get ?'=0 (on paper and in mathcad) and that doesn't match up with what you show on page...
I am working on a Mathcad file for calculating torsional stresses. Looking at AISC Design Guide 9, is there a way to calculate the values in the graphs in Appendix B instead of looking at the graph to come up with the values?
Thank you
