I know that connecting dissimilar metals is not recommended. I've looked at galvanic corrosion charts, but I've had a hard time making good sense out of some of the tables I've seen. My specific question is about these connections:
1. stainless steel to galvanized steel
2. aluminum to...
Yakpol,
You're right. There are a lot of things that we need to look at in more detail - clear distances between tendons and edge of concrete being one of them. We're only at about 10% design phase at this point. But we'll have to probably sweep that tendon from 18" (VSL requirement) to 9"...

1. I'm looking at having to provide approximately 3800 to 4000 kips of P/T force in the final condition. The control is bascially bending. I have a single column hammerhead pier cap. Top fiber tension stress at the face of the column is what is controlling (at least so far in...
Graybeach is exactly correct. Based on the geometry of the interchange, we don't have vertical clearance to do a conventional pier cap. The road underneath can't be lowered enough to make it work.
We also only have room for a single column, so the cap cantilevers out 20' or so from the face...
Does anyone know if there are design examples and/or other information somewhere out there for a curved steel girder bridge with an integral post-tensioned concrete pier cap?
I'm working on a bridge where we will most likely be utilizing that kind of system. I've done PT pier caps before, just...
The 5th edition of LRFD (2010) says that a pedestrian load of 75 psf shall be used for all vehicluar bridges. If you are designing a pedestrian bridge, the latest version of AASHTO directs you to the guide specs:
"Bridges intended for only pedestrian, equestrian, light maintenance vehicle...
I am working on designing a pedestrian bridge based on the new AASHTO LRFD standards. According to section 3.6.1.6, the fundamental frquency of my bridge has to be higher than 3 Hz. I am having a hard time making this work and it's going to cause me to have a really deep section, almost to the...
I have a road/bridge project that I am working on where we have a 36" diameter concrete pipe that was covered with 6.5' of fill. After the project is done, the pipe will be ocvered with 24' of fill in some spots. The pipe can't handle that amount of fill, so we will need to protect the pipe in...
