Greg,
I do usually consider for the width of the sleeve 50 mm minimum (after shrinkage of the sleeve)overlap on the factory applied coating.
Cheers,
NB
I'm using a heat shrinkable sleeve polypropylene based (the factory applied coating is polypropylene).
I agree that the main point is to ensure a proper bonding between the FBE and the PP, but I don't see how the tail could help that. when we preheat the pipe with induction coils in order to...

Hi guys,
I'm working as coating engineer and I have a question regarding the FBE tail protruding from a 3L-PP or 3L-PE anticorrosion coating on pipes.
In my opinion any residual FBE at the cutback area should be avoided as it could be detrimental for field joint coating and AUT operations...

Berkshire,
I alo thought on moisutre, but before starting the infill operations the joint was pre-heated at 30º, so moisture shouldn't be present.
Do you think that a density test could be useful?
Thanks

Hi Everybody,
I am a materials engineer and I work as coating engineer for oil & gas industry.
I was attenting a qualification test for solid polyurethane infill material for field joint coating and I experimented a quite strange behaviour of the material.
After filling the mould around the...
Greg,
thanks for your replay
It could be that in the polyol was present some moisture, but the raw material was stored adequately.
The infill was performed on 3 consecutive joints and the solid PU always showed the same behaviour.

Hi everybody,
I'm a materials engineer and I'm working as coating engineer for an oil company. I was monitoring a PQT some days ago and I saw something quite strange so I would like to ask your opinion.
The pqt was for polyurethane infill for field joint. After filling the field joint the...
