When ATEX first came about, I remember reading somewhere that it was ok to re-use pre-ATEX electrical equipment on new installation work (assuming the equipment is in good condition) & to re-furbish existing pre-ATEX equipment (e.g. motor overhauls). Could anybody name a standard or other...
We have some new workshop machines purchased from abroad, the wiring diagrams for the motor starters are identical to the following:-
http://www.ssusa.cc/reference/wiring_diagrams/standard_series_drawings/series_110/110_01.pdf
The are rated at 2.2KW / 1.1KW, but both overload relays are set...
If TV’s contain switched mode power supplies, then protective conductor current is your likely problem. If you are in the UK, any new or altered socket outlet circuits which may be used to supply IT or electronic equipment should comply with section 607 of BS 7671 (high integrity earth).
The...
For many years we have used 3- phase welding sockets incorporating Emguard earth monitoring units & 30mA RCD units.
We are thinking about ditching the Emguard units & just having sockets with built in RCD units.
Any thoughts on this, anybody else use welding sockets incorporating earth...

I’ve come across two similar 60/1A ct’s, one is marked two primary turns, the other three primary turns. Does this mean two / three primary turns respectively are required to give a 60/1 ratio in each case? To me, a 60/1A ct is 60/1 with one primary passing through???
Thanks in advance.

When terminating SWA cable glands into painted metal gland plates, traditionally we use brass earth tags with individual single core cables to an earth bar, this is not a problem in distribution panels put can quite easily over fill an earth bar in a distribution board.
What do others think...

"V.F.D's just aren't reliable in any working conditions"
We've been using them with for many years with few problems, particularly modern types.

The old versions were easy to...
oceanamber,
Rather than using BN, BK & GY (we previously used R,Y & B) in circuit
reference labels, cable tags & core tags, we will be using L1,L2 & L3 for
phase identification & N for neutral (as these are un-changed).
Therefore an addition to circuit E1/R4 in the hospital mentioned would be...
Where I work, we were planning to change over later this year, but have been forced to change over has from now because our cable supplier has depleted stocks of the ‘old’ colours.
I bet the IEE never thought of this when giving the two years grace!!!

Lots of interesting replies here.
We used to install a lot of Danfoss drives, Danfoss strongly recommend the fitting of a back plate if the drive is not mounted directly, to ensure all cooling air is dragged passed the cooling fins.
Anyway, why on earth would anyone weld brackets onto a...
Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction in obtaining factual cases of fires / explosions in hazardous areas caused by static electricity, non suitable electrical equipment, non compliant electrical equipment installation practice, non compliant electrical working practice or lack...
