ISO: PE ChemE in California/ Nevada

What type of work would specifically require a Chemical PE? I'd assume it has to do with the permitting of some sort or a governmental regulatory agency? I'm just curious. I haven't seen alot of cases where a chemical PE is a requirement.

    Hydrocarbons in TEG regeneration unit

I recently heard a presentation about a similar operational problem on an offshore platform where the inlet separator had become blocked with sand and all the condensate was carrying over into the contactor. I tend to agree with Dcasto in that you should probably check out your inlet...

    Fin Fan Coolers

You might also want to consider if the lube oil cooler is in a building or not. Depending on what the heat rejection rate is, things can get a bit toasty in the summer.

Any Experience with Exchanger Tube Inserts

Years ago, I removed some turbulators from a hot oil air cooler after they had become foulded. This was a much dirtier application than most hot oil operations, so I can't really judge based on my one experience. Actually, I had no idea they were in there until we had to clean the unit out. I...

Any Experience with Exchanger Tube Inserts

Was increased pressure drop ever a problem?

Reduction of CO level in flue gas

I believe there are oxidation catalysts out there for converting CO into CO2 in flue gas, similar to the catalytic converter on your car. Probably pretty expensive though.

    Controllability

The 0.4 psid seems like an awfully low pressure drop for for flow control, but there really isn't enough information to determine if flow control is acheavable for this application. There are a few more things you would need to know: -What type of fluid is it? You would need to know the...

Thermosyphon Reboiler Return Line - Vertical 2 Phase Flow

Some additional questions: If the fluid is relatively close to it's critical point is it more or less likely to slug in two phase flow? Does the liquids surface tension make a difference? Is a two-phase hydrocarbon fluid more likely to slug than a two-phase aqueous fluid? What is the 15...

Thermosyphon Reboiler Return Line - Vertical 2 Phase Flow

thread124-95533 I found this thread from a while back. Sshep had mentioned that the ideal mixed-mean velocity for vertical runs of pipe is 15 ft/sec or higher to avoid slugging. In one particular thermosyphon reboiler circuit I am evaluating, the velocities would be about 5 to 10 ft/sec...

    Amine Contactor Down

A hypothetical situation that I'm sure happens all the time: You have an 50/50 mixture of MDEA/Water solvent adsorbing CO2 from natural gas at 1000 psig in an amine contactor. The amine contactor has two-pass valve trays with 3" weir heights. You are operating normally but then suddenly lose...

    Segmented Fin Air-Cooled HEX

Does anybody have any experience split fin or segmented fin air coolers? It's also called High Performance or Wheelfin depending on the manufacturer. Basically the fin is a regular L-tension wound aluminum fin with a notch cut on the outside edge to increase air turbulence and help heat...

    Storage Vessel Depressurization

Yep. So far all we have to go by is the size of the flare system that these vessels are feeding into.

    Storage Vessel Depressurization

Are there any API guidelines for the blow-down of pressure vessels to flare? Are there any guidelines for how quickly the blow-down should occur (such as, no greater than 20 psid/minute or 10%/minute)

    Convert H2S to SOx

Do you know the composition and BTU value of your fuel gas? I've performed similar conversions by determining the stoichiometric ratios of the combustion products (CO2, SO2, H2O) to each component in the fuel gas. This is a somewhat tedious process because it involves balancing a combustion...

    Two-Phase Flow meter

http://www.foxboro.com/us/eng/products/instrumentation/flow/massflowmeters/digitalcoriolis.htm The demonstration video at that link is priceless in terms of cheesiness.
