Catia V4 layer creation

I have a fair bit of seat time on Catia but I have never used the filter/layer functions. Could anyone give me a "quick"lesson on how to place features(lines,curves,machine stock) on layers.

Layer > layer>transfer>
key in layer, then key in string for what you want to transfer.

*ln string

will transfer lines that are only visible and not in no-pick.
