Oh good grief!  It happened again on the evening news.  How in H*** can you get to be a TV journalist saying something like that?

Oh, it was much worse than that.  The reference was from a local Los Angeles newscast detailing the escape and recapture of three felons from the Riverside County Southwest Detention Center at French Valley.
The broadcast journalist statement included, in part, "...the alleged exscaped felons..." !

Oral language, by its very nature, is given more latitude than written language.  

That's what allows us to not have language police arrest people that call our capital "Warshington."

   Mhmm, "LANGUAGE POLICE"... interesting!    But I think that, here in Italy, in such a case there would be more people in prison than out... maybe it's better to reward those who use appropriate language.

I vote for the language police to write citations for people who say Warshington.  Our friend, Kitty, who moved here to North idaho from Chicago ran and hugged my wife when she heard her say "...to warsh my clothes."  And I guess it is ok that Jack Kennedy was want to say, "Cuber" seeing as where he hailed from and there weren't no language police in Warshington at the time.

I heard a radio advertisement today in which the National Education Association president said Warshington.  I wonder if any member of that association would see the irony...

thought Warshington was a state out west and the capital was Wishingtown D.C.

The accent in the D.C. area comples many natives to pronounce it "Warshington".
