Pressure Testing of Fuel Pipe

Pressure Testing of Fuel Pipe

(OP)

We need a little help.  We are looking for standardized testing procedure for testing a fuel pipe under pressurized conditions.

We typically use 3/4" steel pipe for propane fuel hookups to generators.  Our inspector is asking us to set up a pressure test, but he is not giving us a procedure.

If anyone can refer us to a standard procedure for testing pipes for these conditions, it would be appreciated.

RE: Pressure Testing of Fuel Pipe

You may find the National Fuel Gas Code to be helpful.  Look in Part 4, Inspection, Testing, and Purging.  You should be able very quilckly to adapt the code requirements to your needs.  For instance it gives you the duration requirements based on volume of fuel line, the test medium requirements, the pressure requirements (1.5 times the maximum working pressure), etc.  Also, if this is a municipal inspector he may have additional requirements that will need to be incorporated into a procedure.
