Alternative to MS Project

Alternative to MS Project

(OP)
I've been using MS Project to create Ghant charts.  Although there isn't really any capability that Project seems to be lacking, the technique to build it just doesn't work for me.  I don't find it very intuitive.

Anyway, I was thinking about alternatives to MS Project and was going to do some research about them, and I realized that I don't know of any.

Can anyone recommend an alternative to MS Project that I can research?

Thanks,

RE: Alternative to MS Project

Hi Scott,

You asked of alternatives to MS Project. I'm surprised that so many people seem to use MS Project. There is a German application called something like "PowerProject" written by a company called Asta Developments (sometimes refer to themselves as "Astadev").

I think it's way more powerful and easier to manipulate and more flexible than MS Project. It's easier to get the finished Gantt chart to look readable and presentable too. I think it's expensive. Last I heard it cost about 700 Euros (I'm in Ireland).

You could check their website.

Good Luck.

Not surprising at all if you want to be able to share a schedule file with someone else.

Scott,

Have a look at www.planningplanet.com there is a survey of planning software currently on the market in full swing.

Will, the Planning Planet survey is in a preview stage.  The PP team is soliciting input from everyone before the survey goes live in 2004.

I ended up going with Open Workbench.

Pretty much my entire Office Suite of applications is open source.
