I am having some problems on Nickel Chromium Alloy 88. The material specification is ASTM A-494 (CY5SnBiM). This alloy when being melted is very smokey due to the content of Bismuth and Tin (3-5%). I was pouring this alloy in the investment casting process and the castings always had big shrinkage and gas holes defect. I even tried different temperatures from 2600°F to 3000°F, different size of gating techniques but the problems were always there. I know this is one of the rare alloy in the industry and was not easy to cast. If any one have any suggestion with this alloy, please let me know.
Thank you in advance.
