I am trying to build a C177 guarded hot plate test to measure the thermal conductivity of various insulation materials.  Does anyone have any hints on building a simple but precise unit (or know of a good site to reference)?

ASTM C1043 gives the design requirements for a guarded hot plate.  

You might also check the following website.  It gives a schematic of the GHP.
