What parameters or standards determine the recommended design of the groove profile in a removable backing bar?

One important factor, is the access space for the welding gun, you must have a big enough gap which will permit you to weld at the root of your prepared joint and also have the right welding angle.

Welding backing bars are an off the shelf item at most welding supply shops.
AWS D1.1 requires that the composition and size be detailed on the WPS. Good Luck!
