Which industry standard code or codes are most commonly referenced for conformance in the construction of natural gas pipelines? Specifically, wall thickness (at the butt-weld end) of components such as valves must be determined considering design pressure, materials (allowable stresses) and design criteria or formula. What specification provides this information?

ASME B31.8 is the Piping Code for Gas Transmision and Distribution. Chapter 3 covers system components, flanges, valves etc.
