Welding of dissimilar metals
Welding of dissimilar metals
(OP)
I need some information on welding 430 (or 430F)
stainless steel to 304 or 316.
Is it possible using TIG, beam or laser welding?
What are the concerns when welding these materials
together if any?
What filler rod is recommneded?
Any other information would be greatly appreciated
Thank You,

RE: Welding of dissimilar metals
The 430F is more of a problem with a higher Sulfur and Carbon contents, More of a chance of hotcracking. and the corrosion resistance is would be less due to more Chromium Carbide formation. I would try the ER309L here first and if the results were un acceptable change to ER347 filler. The 347 has a little Co that helps stabilize the carbide.
