API RP 576 Inspection of pressure-relieving devices
This guide describes automatic pressure-relieving devices commonly used in the oil and petrochemical industries. It is intended to ensure their proper performance by means of inspection and control of these devices.
It covers various automatic devices such as spring-loaded pressure relief valves, pilot-operated valves and rupture (bursting) discs.
The guide includes:
descriptions of the various types of pressure relieving devices, including their typical applications and limitations;
reasons for inspection;
causes of improper performance, including corrosion, damaged seating surfaces, failed springs, improper setting and adjustment, plugging and sticking, misapplication of materials, improper location, history or identification, rough handling and improper differential between operating and set pressures;
frequency and time of inspection;
safety precautions for inspections;
records and reports.
The 2nd edition of this standard was published in 2000.
