thread507-509732: Roof Load Path?

Hi,
Just wondering if someone can help me with my question. In the picture in thread507-509732: Roof Load Path?. Do the white 2x4 beams that run across are taking on weight from the rafters or roof?
I have a wall that sits under roughly where the 2x4 meets in the middle and was wondering if i am able to remove it to open up an area?
