section modulus depends in I, the second moment of area. A weld is a "line" with some width. Does that help ?

"Design of Welded Structures", by Blodgett has line section modulus for many shapes and is an excellent resource for weld design. It was my main resource when for weld design.

Here is copy of weld section modulus from the Design of Welded Structures book I indicated in previous post. You can do a search for "weld section modulus tables"

RE: How to caclulate section modulus of well all around I beam

A brand new copy of "Design of Welded Structures" by Blodgett, a hardbound book, is $30, plus shipping from the company who produces them, The James F. Lincoln Arc Welding Foundation at https://www.jflf.org/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCod....

One of the best deals I have ever come across that wasn't simply free.
