Applying aging factors to clays

Applying aging factors to clays

Applying aging factors to clays

(OP)
Reaching a bit here, but does anyone know of any literature on applying aging factors to clays in cyclic softening assessments?

I have sDMT and sCPT data.

There's a whole body of literature on doing this for liquefaction assessment of sands (eg. Andrus / Hayati - Correcting Liquefaction Resistance for Aged Sands using Measured to Estimated Velocity Ratio), which sort of reflects earlier research on aging effects on sands impacting monotonic load cases (i.e. Schmettermans 25th Terzhagi Lecture).

I feel like the monotonic aging effects also occur in clays - eg. long term setup effects of driven piles in clay-like soils so it seems reasonable that aging-related effects occur in clay as well.

I had thought to just apply the MEVR/KDR correction form Andrus / Hayati to the CRR for clay like soils but maybe cap the increase in CRR at 10-20%.

RE: Applying aging factors to clays

Ishihara's book discusses time dependency of low-amplitude shear modulus related to remoulded clays. Not sure how that has been followed up on in recent research.

Not much help on aging from the national academy of sciences state of the art liquefaction assessment regarding aging of fine grained material other than the general principal note older deposits have more resistance than newer or recently liquefied deposits.
