Fillcrete Displace Water?

Fillcrete Displace Water?

Fillcrete Displace Water?

(OP)
I'm wondering if fillcrete can be placed in a hole filled with water and retain it's strength? Will it displace the water?

Have an issue with new construction where we are digging out a snake pit filled with organic soil that will likely fill with water due to depth. We will want to backfill with fillcrete.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

RE: Fillcrete Displace Water?

Yes it does, bored piles are often pored with water in the hole. A tremie pipe is used and placed a foot off the base of the hole. The concrete pushes the water out of the hole as filling is progressed.

Sorry just to clarify I wanted to know about fillcrete (this is a a flowable cslm) not concrete.

RE: Fillcrete Displace Water?

I would think that its denser that water so should still displace it

It will displace the water but ,in order to gain proper strength , the concrete shall be placed with tremie method.
In case of incorrect concrete placement , (direct discharge and free fall into the hole bore with no tremie pipe), the concrete would be in poor quality and non-homogenous .

RE: Fillcrete Displace Water?

As long as good tremie techniques are followed, the water will easily be displaced.
