Hello, I have fuel storage tank for Diesel Oil with caps 17500 m3 & open vents.
Is anyone here know what is the standard size of Wire Mesh used as screens of Open Vent?

On a open vent we would just make a call out on drawings to be furnished with bird screen, so just to keep out something the size of a bird.

Too smalland it can block with moss, leaves and spiders.

Too big and you get birds.

So maybe 1" mesh?

Just make it a lot bigger than the square area of the pipe, I.e not a flat mesh or plate on the end.

What is the design code? Is it a bird screen or an insect screen (both options are applicable)? What kind of vents (specific vents = specific requirements)?

Quote (API 650-2013) All free vents shall be provided with corrosion-resistant coarse-mesh bird screens of a maximum opening size of (19 mm [3/4 in.] nominal opening). It is recommended that in areas where snow drifting or icing may be an issue, special attention to vent details (such as profile, diameter, capacity, arrangement, or increased screen size) should be made. In these situations the Purchaser shall specify modified venting requirements based on anticipated needs for a specific environment. The smallest dimension of the opening in any mesh used for bird screen is the governing size for the opening.
H. Peripheral circulation vents shall be located on the tank roof (unless otherwise specified by the Purchaser) and meet the requirements of H.5.3.3, so that they are above the seal of the internal floating roof when the tank is full. The maximum spacing between vents shall be 10 m (32 ft), based on an arc measured at the tank shell, but there shall not be fewer than four equally-spaced vents. The venting shall be distributed such that the sum of the open areas of the vents located within any 10 m (32 ft) interval is at least 0.2 m2 (2.0 ft2). The total net open area of these vents shall be greater than or equal to 0.06 m2/m (0.2 ft2/ft) of tank diameter. These vents shall be covered with a corrosion-resistant coarse-mesh screen (13 mm [1/2 in.] openings, unless specified otherwise by the Purchaser) and shall be provided with weather shields (the closed area of the screen must be deducted to determine the net open vent area).
