Service life of electrostatic powder coating comparing with conventional painting method

Service life of electrostatic powder coating comparing with conventional painting method

Service life of electrostatic powder coating comparing with conventional painting method

(OP)
Hello guys!
I receive some metal products which are coated by electrostatic powder and I try to figure out if the service life of electrostatic powder coat is equal to conventional painting methods or not.
My point is, items are coated by electrostatic powder are not blasted and therefore no profile is provided for adherent surfaces which is normally made in conventional painting methods.
Can someone advises me if the service life of electrostatic powder coating is as good as conventional blasting / painting methods.

Umm....

I just checked the recommended prep for several powder suppliers.

They all recommended media blasting.

what is the application?
what type of metal?
what are the service conditions?
what is the issue with "profile for adjacent surfaces"?
millions of power coated parts are out in use.

@MintJulep,
Thanks, I get your point.
It should have been blasted to have the best service life.

You might consider whether any powdercoat systems have been rated per ISO 12944. This is the prevailing paint durability standard in my world and there are tons of very high durability paint systems that are proven** to an ISO 12944 performance rating.

** That said, ISO 12944 is for paint systems applied to large engineered-to-order structures, which makes it feasible to build in the recommended cross sections, minimum edge radiusing, minimal number of bolted joints, etc that make for excellent paint performance. I see ISO 12944 applied to all sorts of things like small machinery where it's not possible to follow all of the prep and design-for-coating requirements of 12944. So take care that powdercoating may perform better overall in your application than a very high 12944 paint system applied without all of the details that help with painting.
