Plastic Heat Insulation
Plastic Heat Insulation
(OP)
Good Evening! I am a High school student and we decided to tackle using Plastic as Heat Insulation. As things goes, we hit a wall regarding thermal conductivity which to be honest, we don't understand even a little about. Can anyone explain us regarding what it is and how to get the thermal conductivity of an object?
RE: Plastic Heat Insulation
"Plastic" is a very broad word to use and covers many different substances. Solid "plastic" is not as good at insulating as foamed plastic like PU foam, but better than bare steel.
In engineering terms it is usually measured in W/m/K. The higher the number the higher the heat transfer or the worse the insulation
You get thermal conductivity from many online sources.
Engineering toolbox is pretty good at lots of this sort of thing and also gives explanations and formula.
