Doubts mechanical and electronic HDD Hard Disk

Doubts mechanical and electronic HDD Hard Disk

Doubts mechanical and electronic HDD Hard Disk

(OP)
Can any electronic mechanical engineer help me with questions about HDD?

1) HDD has a mechanical system (reading arm, motor, lubricant) and notebook HDDs stored with my files, what is the maximum interval to energize these HDDS and prevent failures in the mechanical system, motor and lubrication?

2) Notebook HDD stores the firmware and Smart in what type of memory? Does this memory need to be energized every few days or months to avoid losing the firmware and Smart files? What is the maximum safe interval to connect the notebook HDD and prevent failures in this memory chip?

The firmware is likely stored in flash memory; which is an electrically erasable floating gate technology. There is not short of reflashing the memory that can change the memory decay over time. In fact, each access of the memory likely weakens one polarity of the bits stored, since a read acts as a weak erase.

Dispose of this pile of toxic electronic waste as soon as possible.
