Bondo Filler prep

Bondo Filler prep

(OP)
Hey,
I am considering using Bondo filler for my composite work for the first time and I was wondering if I would absolutely need to apply gelcoat over it. I was wondering if I could just sand it and then apply mold release wax and PVA mold release to it. In my head since it's a polyester resin it should be fine. I would be using the one that doesn't contain fiberglass. Thanks!

RE: Bondo Filler prep

You will probably see a need to re-coat the bondo area with mold release more often.

Ah okay. But it'll work?

The mould isn't meant to be super reusable. It's for a 3d printed mould that just has a defect from the actual printing process.

RE: Bondo Filler prep

Yes I've seen it work...but the same shop always gel coated their production molds.

Sounds good. I already decided to just go through with gel coating anyways. Thanks!
