Circular Column Interaction Diagram.

Circular Column Interaction Diagram.

(OP)
Does anyone have a spreadsheet that produces one of these, they don't mind sharing. I have some end bearing piles with a significant moment applied to the top. I can accommodate the lateral soil pressure, but don't have an easy manner to check the pile reinforcing.

Thanks, Dik

RE: Circular Column Interaction Diagram.

dik: IDS has a sheet on their site, think this is the newer one.

I made this one a bit ago: Link
it uses macros so you'll need to right click and unprotect the file in windows before opening it. If you have an questions happy to answer as best as I can.

Thanks, Celt... I'll take a gander...

Thanks for posting the link Celt.

For latest downloads from the blog click on the Downloads tab at the top of the page. That has a sortable list of everything available for download, and links to the latest blog articles.

Latest versions for RC design spreadsheets are:
https://interactiveds.com.au/software/RC%20design%...
https://interactiveds.com.au/software/ULS%20Design...

The RC Design Functions spreadsheet has functions CIRCE and CIRCU for elastic and ultimate limit state analysis of circular sections.

The ULS Design Functions spreadsheet does ULS analysis for any cross section divided into trapezoidal layers. There is sample input for a circular section, but the functions in the other spreadsheet have much more convenient input.

Both spreadsheets work for ACI 318, Australian codes, and Eurocode 2, and RC Design Functions also does AASHTO.

They don't do the Canadian codes at the moment. Are they available for free download?

This is a construct from about 20 or more years back... you might find interesting... change the number of bars... A simple logic construct and add the formula at the end...

I've done a couple of programs where my source code is in excess of a megabyte... I used to love programming both software and at the hardware level... in half a dozen different languages. Did RPN before HP came out with it (Forth).

Does using the parabolic distribution rather the the Whitney distribution give more correct answers for circular sections?

Thanks IDS... it's overkill for what I need, but it's nice to program it... Canwest's charts are more than adequate for just design...

RE: Circular Column Interaction Diagram.

dik - entering a few numbers to plot an interaction curve is at least as quick as looking up the curve in a book, and allows you to plot all the available design data on the chart, and see instantly if anywhere is outside the capacity line.

But each to their own :)

Doug... this is a 'one off' item... efficiency is not an issue, and it may be a while before I get to use it again... but I'd still write the program... I just like a little coding... You don't have to sell me on the elegance of a nice program. Just looking at the one that Celt did... wow...

RE: Circular Column Interaction Diagram.

Dik:
My sheet uses on sheet computations and relies on vba for the numerical root finding which is why the p-m curve generation can take considerable time, each iteration requires all of the on sheet formulas to recompute.

Denial and IDS each have much more elegant solutions to the biaxial problem.

That's why I used Assembly in the days of the 8088... <G>

Thanks for the generous comment, Celt.  Particularly appreciated from someone of your calibre.
