helical gearbox calculation

helical gearbox calculation

RE: helical gearbox calculation

If you have the gearbox, the manufacturer has specifications.

If you need to select a gearbox you need to find out things about your situation.
"Prime mover" type ( electric motor, steam or gas turbine, Conan ) Power, rpm, duty cycle, plant environment, space/envelope available for the gearbox, required reliability, budget , when the system must be up and running, and lots more.

Sometime belt drives are useful for driving equipment.

RE: helical gearbox calculation

Question is way too open-ended. Do you have a particular reducer, ratio, motor, motor speed that you are working with? Manufacturer's literature will generally walk you through most applications. Call the reducer manufacturer and speak with an applications engineer - they know how to answer almost any application questions. Attached is a Falk helical and helical-bevel literature for reference. A lot of times the difficulty lies in calculating the required torque/power/speed of the machine, afterwhich the reducer practically sizes itself. Also make certain to understand the thermal capacity of the reducer, thermal power may be the limiting factor. (Also, your picture indicates a helical-bevel reducer, which will have somewhat different capacity that parallel-shaft helical gearbox.)

I suggest a gear design handbook and a gear program. that has been proven

What kind of prime mover type is Conan?
Thanks!
