Cast iron tubing and stainless steel fixtures
Cast iron tubing and stainless steel fixtures
(OP)
Dear forum,
Would you please advise me on the following... there is a cast iron tubbing (tunnel) and it is planned to fix some stainless steel fixtures on on it (cable racks, piping etc etc, atmosphere from time to time bight be with high humidity. I have followings questions is this set-up advisable from corrosion point of view?
And what or how or where measurements to be performed (potentials or whatever) to assess the susceptibility of corrosion ?
Any ideas would be much of a help ....
Thank you so much

RE: Cast iron tubing and stainless steel fixtures
Will it be with carbon steel fasteners?
Where the SS contacts the CI (and steel) there will be some accelerated local corrosion.
The only way to prevent this is to electrically isolate the SS.
Installing and maintaining such connections is very difficult.
More common would be using carbon steel fasteners and then just worry about where the SS attaches to those.
