method to evaluate received power transmission from Bluetooth devices

We are replacing an obsolete bluetooth SPP (bluetooth classic) module.
We would like to compare the received power from some of the new devices to the original device.
I would have thought there was a simple way to do this?

Matlab has a bluetooth toolbox that has a command BLElist that gives the RSSI for BLE (not SPP devices)
They have a pathloss function but they appears to be for just simulated data.

There has to be a simple way to use a laptop to compare the range of a few different Bluetooth devices?
Perhaps some type of shareware or a trick someone knows?

thank you in advance
Jim

all set, thanks

RE: method to evaluate received power transmission from Bluetooth devices

When I tried it with a cell phone app, I got different readings each time I measured it. And other phones read a bit differently from mine. I don't have any other suggestion for how to do it, just that it wasn't as useful as I was hoping.
