But, you didn't define your function to handle a vector. How is it supposed to know which entry in the vector it's supposed to be working on?

Why does it work with the first vector defined using a simple equation but not the vector defined using a program?

That is one possible solution; the other is to use the indices you defined to populate a solution vector
