Does anyone have a handy solution for a load applied by a plate across an HSS section, where the buckling of the tube wall may likely occur. This would take account of the radiused corners.

The actual application is a 1" cap plate welded to a W column and the HSS beam is welded to this cap plate to develop a small moment. The moment force being treated as a line load across the HSS beam at the edge of the cap plate.

Thanks...

Taken AISC Design Guide 24. ALso in Ch K of AISC 360-10 (moved in new version of AISC)

Something like that, but like this:

Oh just one wall loaded axially. If you have access to AISC Design Examples V14.1, There is an example (K.11) for Cont. Beam over HSS column that includes a local check of the HSS sidewalls for yielding and crippling. Same limit states as Table K1.2 from AISC 360-10

Coincidentally, the STI webinar, currently watching handles this exact type of problem. Thanks...
