I want to know if the following o-ring groove design is acceptable and will preform well? or should I change it to a radial groove like the second image?
The yellow part will slide into an opening in the red housing, the pressure is external, the two part are made from Al,the selected o-ring C is 1.2 mm.

This is a cross section view.

Make the groove radial. It will not be dependent on the closure tolerance and should remain in place when parts are disassembled.
