Valve Testing

Valve Testing

(OP)
Hello Gentlemen,
I need to get some information about gate valve testing. I'm working on PSL 2 and PSL 3 10000 PSI WP valves and I need to modify the test procedures to comply with API 6A Specification. Up to now we performed the hydro test at the Working Pressure. I need to upgrade the system and I got a couple of questions for you:
1) May I use the test flanges with 1/2" NPT ports to hydro test the body at 15000 PSI?
2) In case of not compliance of the above mentioned thread which is the more suitable?
Any helps will be appreciate.

RE: Valve Testing

NPT Fittings are not typically used above 6000 psi.
Parker has some tubing fittings especially for higher pressure applications.  The following address is for a Parker Fitting good to 15,000 psi.

RE: Valve Testing

In 1981 I used Harwood Engineering in Walpole, MA for test rig valves/fittings/tubing to test API valves at 30,000 psi shell and 20,000 seat. The test rig itself we designed to 30,000 psi and hydroed to 45,000 psi. We were very satisfied with their performance. Their url is

RE: Valve Testing

API 6A allows you to hydrotest 1/2 NPT fittings @ 15,000 psi.Whether you want to do this on a repetitive basis with your test apparatus is another story. I suggest you switch to 9/16 autoclave fittings good to 30,000 psi.
