orange edge highlights are SLOW: Helix features

(OP)
Hey all,
I have created some custom threads in my model using the helix command. Whenever my mouse overflies the feature in the tree, all of the edges of the threads are sequentially highlighted in orange. this takes several seconds for each feature, and as such, is slowing down the operations.

I have turned off HLR, booted safe mode and checked and unchecked just abt every box in tools/options/display.

we are running SW on a server, and I am remoting in. I am afraid that this is the issue, but I'm not sure how to verify.
any ideas are welcome.

thank you kindly for your thoughts.

Uncheck “Dynamic highlight” under Tools > Options > FeatureManager
