Greetings Engineering Community.

I am in need of some assistance.

I am a Supplier Development Engineer at a rail manufacturing company and we have a project to outsource one of our stations. The supplier will then be supplied with all our spot welding equipment.

My question would be, according to AWS D17.2 Class B, would the supplier have to qualify all the machines and WPS's?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

The weld schedule is qualified when working to AWS D17.2. The data that is recorded are the air pressure, current, etc., so, in effect the machine is "qualified" as part of qualifying the weld schedule. If the machine isn't operating in a consistent manner, it is unlikely the test results will be consistent enough to fall within the "window" of acceptable test results.
