I remember wiring up a light socket with a cord when I was about 8 or 10 and showed it to my pop... he took a look at it and advised my that I should have used the individual wires to each side of the light socked. I had bared the wires and divided them equally and joined them to each side of the connector so half the stands from each wire were connected to the same terminal (short circuit, type of circuit).
