PVC "Truss Pipe" 1

Hi Everyone,

I have a project that specifically calls out "15" Diameter PVC Truss Pipe" for a new gravity sewer system and I am getting info from our Contractor that there is a current outage with no known resolution date for the CONTECH PVC Truss Pipe. He claims CONTECH are the only manufacturers who make PVC Truss pipe, and frankly, I am struggling to find other manufacturers myself. Does anyone know of a suitable replacement for this pipe? I know the ASTM referenced is ASTM D2680 -- the relevant portion being the 200 psi pipe stiffness requirement -- this system is roughly 38' deep.

Is a pipe stiffness of 200 psi really required here? You could do the deflection calculations for "regular" DR26 PVC sewer pipe and see if works. I haven't done any sewers deeper than about 20 feet, so I don't know how this pipe would fare at 38'. If it doesn't quite work, then maybe concrete encase (?).

Or, what about using 16" PVC water pipe, perhaps DR14 or DR18? These pipes have heavier walls than DR26 sewer pipe and would provide an ID of approximately 15". I didn't calc the pipe stiffness (it's too late in the afternoon to do that[smile]), but these pipes have a heavier wall than regular PVC sewer pipe and might provide the 200 psi pipe stiffness you are after.
