I have a question. Would you please help me?
What is the effect of presence of methanol in ethane feed to olefin plants?
And what is the maximum permissible methanol in ethane feed?

I only have experience with methanol present in propane feedstocks and there it is intentionally added to prevent freezing of the free water present in this feed. The methanol can act as a poison for the catalytic reaction in the downstream process, handling the propane feed, and is therefore removed by means of water washing. The allowable amount of methanol present is in the ppm level.

Inferring from reaction 12 in the attached article, it appears methanol would have a undesirable effect on ethane conversion in the cracking reaction, since methanol would decompose back to its constituent CO and H2 on the Cr surface of the cracker tubes. But I cannot find any info on the max permissible MeOH in ethane feed.
