Does anyone else use EMT (transient simulation) software?

Does anyone else use EMT (transient simulation) software?

Does anyone in this forum use electromagnetic transient simulation? Full disclosure, I'm an employed power engineer and masters student that's totally fed up with the existing state of transient simulation software.

I'd really like to understand what folks typically use these programs for in transmission and distribution. It seems to me that with the movement toward renewable energy that we need to use transient simulation software more and more, yet the state of the art seems to have stagnated. Mainly, my questions:

Are folks using dynamic simulators such as powerworld for modeling inverter interactions on the powergrid?
Does anyone actually use electromagnetic transient simulation anymore? Or is it just my coursework?

RE: Does anyone else use EMT (transient simulation) software?

The use of power electronics pushes the use of EMT software compared to other RMS software. I use EMT simulations frequently.

I am interested in the syllabus and if there is a web link to your class, please share.

The transients analysis course at University of Idaho https://webpages.uidaho.edu/ece/ee/power/ECE524/ is the most recent one I took. I intend to take more power electronics oriented coursework in the future.

I've been writing my own solver in response.
