Sprinklers and Ceiling Clouds

Sprinklers and Ceiling Clouds

Sprinklers and Ceiling Clouds

I have a situation where the architect does not want sprinklers to penetrate the cloud. The bottom of concrete deck is 12' and they want the clouds at 11'. Now there are concrete beams that hold up the deck and those are bottom 10'. Wanted to know how you guys handled this? If you can see the pic the slotted area are the clouds.

RE: Sprinklers and Ceiling Clouds

Just because an architect wants something doesn't mean they get it. But, if we can accommodate then we try to do so.

There are provisions in the 2016 edition of NFPA 13 that allow you to be up to 3" off the side of an obstruction and still be considered under the obstruction. You must use a water shield like an intermediate level sprinkler. Also, If the cloud is at 11' and the concreted deck is 12' why not just put the sprinkler around the cloud and be 12" down or 11' to the deflector? That is if the clouds are such that you can meet spacing criteria with what you have.

RE: Sprinklers and Ceiling Clouds

I am thinking of just asking them to jack the cloud up a couple of inches so they are 11'-3" or so at the bottom.that way the sidewall is underneath the head.

RE: Sprinklers and Ceiling Clouds

is it a solid ceiling cloud,,, Or are there gaps???

If gaps how big?

What is the dimensions of the entire cloud???
