I'm designing a helical coil compression spring . The spring has to be preset to the final free length . Which correction factor should I use for after set removed condition ? Is it Wahl's that considers both curvature and direct shear or just the direct shear

What is the correct method to design a spring that has to be preset ? Should I use Wahls factor(Kw1) initially , keep the shear stress above maximum to allow deformation for presetting and then determine the final shear stress after set removal by Kw2 ?
