Flare stack height
Flare stack height
(OP)
Dear All,
I have one question.
What determines the flare stack height?
Is this only to burn flare gasses at safe height or any other factors effect the height of the flare stack?
Thanks in advance.

The answer is no. Effectively the flare stack is part of the flare header - it's simply the terminal end of the header. The design of the flare tip will be affected by the pressure in the flare header, but the elevation of the tip (flare stack height) is the elevation necessary for preventing excessive radiant heat exposure.

You also get ground flares where the flame is hidden from horizontal view by being located inside a large open topped surround.
Or sometime ground flares where there is a big pit and horizontal, though rising, flame.
If you've got the space then a vertical flare is cheaper and easier.
