Matte Black Spray Paint to Prevent Laser Specular Reflections

Matte Black Spray Paint to Prevent Laser Specular Reflections

(OP)
Hi,

Has anyone used matte black spray paint on a machined metal surface to prevent potential laser specular reflections? Usually I have my aluminum parts used with laser systems Black Type II Anodized to help prevent specular reflections, but I can't do this in this instance due to lead time. I am thinking I can just have the part machined w/out anodization (3 day lead time, with anodization +4-7 days on top of the 3 day), and buy a can of matte black spray paint at a hardware store and just spray down the parts upon arrival. These are just Class 2 lasers so this is more for redundancy.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Sure, Krylon ultra-flat black is what is often used as the "poor-man's" blackbody coating, so it's got a pretty low reflective, matte finish. Just read carefully, since some Krylon "ultra-flat" blacks are GLOSSY; go figger

Awesome, thank you IR!

You may want to try some of the flat black "stove paint" available at many hardware stores.
It is also very heat resistant and retains its color after many years of solar exposure.

Awesome, thank you all for the help. This problem can now be marked "solved."
