Hello.
I am interested in design of the ball and butterfly valves that used in hydropower industry. Such valves installed in front of the turbines in hydropower plants. Which standards and/or literature describes the following: Stress analysis of the valve housing, counterweight design and hydraulic design of the valve based on the flow rate?

The strength analysis is performed, for example, according to EN13445-3.
The size of the counterweight must be determined by the braking force in the hydraulic cylinder.
- The braking force is equal to the closing torque divided by the arm.
- the closing torque is equal to the torque from the counterweight plus the hydraulic torque minus the bearing friction minus the friction from the seal.

The minimum and maximum pressures in the hydraulic cylinder must be checked.
