D.GE Certificate

D.GE Certificate

(OP)
Hello,

Has anyone apply for to this certification?, is it worth to get it?.

Can anyone share his experience?. I noticed that there is a paperwork involved and then there is an oral exam.

Anyone know what are the topics considered in the oral exam?

Thanks.

RE: D.GE Certificate

ASCE shows it on their WEB site, but it also shows folks with it in addition to a PE designation. I doubt that the average client could give a hoot one way or the other. 0f the many engineers I have, worked with or otherwise, these designations other than PE, for licensing purposes, do not mean much. Even graduating from a famous college goes into the background quickly.

RE: D.GE Certificate

I have yet two see an RFP or RFQ require it or even mention it. I know of only one engineer that has gotten the designation and he was big in ASCE. Now retired.

I just do not see the benefit or need for this type of "certification".

RE: D.GE Certificate

If one expert witness has a D.GE cert and the opposing expert witness does not, I believe that can be a plus for the D.GE in the eyes of the judge or jury. Having a D.GE cert can only help improve an engineer's credentials. It is further proof of competence.

RE: D.GE Certificate

I've been in court several times as an expert and there have been experts on the other side. The main differences, if any, are in how the expert presents his arguments. Of course sometimes the main difference is being on the side with the best argument material. I'd not take the time for this added designation if court work really needs it, which I seriously doubt.

You never know what will impress a judge, a jury, an arbitrator, or a mediator. Don't underestimate the value of Board Certification. Check out the multiple certificates hanging on the walls of your doctors and lawyers.

This old guy has been in many a waiting room and similar and I have never bothered to look at these things on the wall other than the shots of his (her) family. Never saw any other person do so either. Been on juries a few times and, other than mentioning the PE and MS, they don't ask much about these things. I still am not impressed enough to recommend it to any one. Years of varied experience meant heck of a lot more when I was on juries, etc.

RE: D.GE Certificate

D GE is the profession's work to elevate engineering to the same status as doctors and lawyers with respect to compensation. Clearly anyone who obtains this is considered a "notch" above and like are. Lots of PhD's in the crowd.

Something that i have noticed is among the requirements is 8 years of experience as a PE.

I did a quick research and the individuals that have DGE certificate have at least 15 years of PE experience.

I haven't seen a "young" engineer with this degree yet.
