Experiencing chevron formation when cold forging concast steel that has a reduction of area of less than 15:1. Problem is greatly reduced when the raw material reduction is doubled 30:1 and disappears when ingot cast steel is used when product and process parameters are kept constant. Aside from tool design and degree of deformation is the reduction in area the primary reason.
