where is masonry column listed in the allowed the asce tables? I do not see it. Is code telling me i cant build a masonry column carport with 2 ft square columns in cat d or e? really?

RE: Allowed? Masonry column as lfrs in seismic cat D/E?

Check out this thread: https://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=287336

One of the code references in there is outdated. Check out ACI 530-13 7.4 for seismic detailing requirements to include columns.

I'd also suggest moving this thread to the either the Structural Engineering General Discussion forum or the Moment Frame & Shear Wall Engineering forum. You'll get more structural engineers there to pitch in their 2 cents.

RE: Allowed? Masonry column as lfrs in seismic cat D/E?

Oh, and FYI I don't live in earthquake country so I can't help you with a nuanced dissection of this part of the code.
