Where can I find the design criteria that specifies the allowable height variation of driving surfaces? I have a situation where there are multiple depressions in a paved roadway, creating an uneven path of travel.

Thank you.

Look at your State DOT handbook. For construction, they would have a 16' rolling straight edge requirement for overlays and a profilograph for new pavements for higher design speeds. If you are rating an existing pavement for say a pavement inventory, you could use a ride index value or rutting value.
