Thickenss of beam

Thickenss of beam

(OP)
Hi All,

We are preparing a proposal for a client who has asked us to develop a condition assessment methodology of steel structure which is protected by Fire retardant in oil and gas industry. At the moment, I don not have any information about the thickness and the material of fire protection. By the way, is there any NDT test to check the thickness of steel beams without any damage to fire protection system in large area ? If yes, would you please let me know about the accuracy, advantages and disadvantage?
Any advice you offer would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Hoda

RE: Thickenss of beam

Dear Hod adelkhah,

You break the fire proofing at various locations and carry out UT survey of the beams.

Hi DHURJATI SEN,
Thanks for your reply.

The client asked for a NDT test with out any breaking or damage to fire protection as I mentioned before. The other point is that they asked for a method which can scan thickness in a large area rather that one thickness reading in one point. I would be happy if you share any information with me in this regard.

Regards
Hoda

RE: Thickenss of beam

Dear Hod adelkhah,

Actually there is an NDT method for the purpose you mentioned. Google "INCOTEST" to find out more.

Standard disclaimer: I neither recommend nor against this practice.
