Pump Nozzle alignment check

Pump Nozzle alignment check

Pump Nozzle alignment check

(OP)
Dear All,

At the site, we are checking alignment but the values are about 6mm (Y and Z direction). The adjustable support is about 2.5m far from the nozzle which cannot be adjusted because the pump foundation everything completed.

Hence we are requesting to provide temporary supports until final fixing. We request to suggest a solution to proceed further.

Please note that even we verify through stress analysis because of friction nozzle loads are exceeding and remaining supports are unbalanced. Kindly suggest

RE: Pump Nozzle alignment check

IMO, the final fix may go with the option of less labor and cost solution. Typically, one may fix the pump as it is, and modify the pipe to fit. The system may not be started up until the modification work of the system is completed and tested.

Dear mk3223,

Thanks for your reply. I request whether we can provide temporary supports near to pump nozzle during alignment check.

Providing permanent support near to nozzle is not possible.

Kindly suggest

RE: Pump Nozzle alignment check

Why and what's the purpose of the temporary support?

is the purpose of the alignment for you to operate the pump with the temporary support? It may not a good practice as a reliable operation.

Why the support can't be added close to the pump nozzle? Is it a space issue or the cost issue?

Dear mk3223

At site we are checking for alignment. It is about 6mm. There is no possibility to modify supports. If we place support close to pump nozzle loads are failing. Whole foundation completed around and not possible to change.

Since it is only alignment, can we provide temporary support and make final torquing.

RE: Pump Nozzle alignment check

As mentioned in the first reply, the pump may be stay as a fixed point since the pump foundation was completed.

IMO, it's okay to have the temporary pipe support to facilitate the pump nozzle alignment, if the pipe can fit. But, I wonder if this can be truely fit with either 2.5mm or 6mm offset per your comments above.
And then, the Piping Engineer needs to modify the piping and support type or location as well to suit the nozzle's alignment and load of the pump.
