What is the optimal way to create a chamfer or radius on the edge of a fused quartz (glass) part - ie. are there special machines that just do this? Tried using a CNC machine but not only did the edge have chipping all around but it also took a long time (8000rpm and used diamond tooling). Not sure I hit the right sfm...

Grinding, typically wet grinding. Slow feeds, lots of coolant.
 
I've seen 5-axis waterjet do this with abrasive particles. Surface finish is semi-rough like sandpaper though.
